Key dates this summer: Victorian government school term 4 finishes on Friday 18 December 2026, and students go back on Thursday 28 January 2027. In Queensland the summer school holidays run from 12 December 2026 to 26 January 2027. Christmas Day is a Friday, Boxing Day a Saturday and New Year's Day a Friday. Australia Day is Tuesday 26 January 2027.
On the Mornington Peninsula, the Peninsula Summer Music Festival is at Peninsula Hot Springs on 2 January 2027, and Portsea Polo is on Saturday 13 February 2027. On the Great Ocean Road, the Lorne Pier to Pub swim is on Saturday 9 January 2027. In the Yarra Valley, the lotus flower season runs from late December to March.
Some homes set a longer minimum stay over Christmas and New Year; the minimum for your dates shows when you pick them. If the week you want is taken, try the week after New Year or late January, which are often quieter. February and March are warm too, with fewer people on the beaches.
