A pool of your own

About two thirds of our homes have their own pool, and for a lot of families that is the whole point of the holiday: kids in the water all afternoon while the adults sit in the shade nearby. The grid below shows every home with a private pool, across the Mornington Peninsula, Melbourne, the Yarra Valley and the Gold Coast.

On the Mornington Peninsula the pool season is roughly November to April. Pools can be gas heated, heat-pump heated or solar heated, and each home's page says which. Solar heating depends on the sun, so it is cool on grey days. At some homes there is an extra charge for gas heating outside summer.

Pools with a view, and pools indoors

The Ocean's Edge in Mount Martha has an infinity pool that runs out to the horizon, and Villa Luminosa has a long pool above the bay. If you want to swim in winter, Manor in Mount Martha has an indoor pool.

On the Gold Coast, pools are in use all year. Our penthouses in Miami and Coolangatta have private rooftop pools with ocean views, and our family homes in Burleigh Heads, Palm Beach, Mermaid Waters and Runaway Bay have their own pools in the backyard, some next to the canal.

Pool safety

All pools need active adult supervision, and pool gates must be kept closed. Some homes also have a spa or a sauna next to the pool, which we list on each home's page.

Questions guests ask

Are the pools heated?
Some are and some aren't. Homes list whether the pool is gas heated, heat-pump heated or solar heated. Solar heating depends on the weather, so it is less effective in the cooler months.
Is there a fee to heat the pool?
At some homes, yes, mostly for gas heating outside summer. Where it applies, the cost is set out on the home's page.
Which areas have the most homes with pools?
The Mornington Peninsula, especially Mount Martha, Sorrento and Portsea, and the Gold Coast.
