Big country houses about an hour from Melbourne, close to the cellar doors of Yarra Glen and Healesville.
See 5 homesThe Yarra Valley is about an hour's drive north-east of Melbourne. Yarra Glen and Healesville are the main towns, with cafes, bakeries and pubs, and the wineries spread out across the hills between them. Most visitors come for the day, so staying the night means quiet evenings and an early start before the crowds.
The valley is known for its wineries and restaurants, from big names like Yering Station and Domaine Chandon to small family cellar doors. Healesville Sanctuary is a great morning out with kids, with koalas, platypus and birds of prey. Early morning hot air balloon flights go up over the vineyards most days when the weather is right.
Weekends are the busy time all year, and spring and autumn are the prettiest seasons. Summer brings outdoor concerts at some wineries and the lotus flower season, which runs from late December to March. Weddings are common at the wineries, so homes near Yarra Glen are popular for wedding parties and guests. Midweek stays are much quieter and often easier to book.
Our Yarra Valley homes are large houses for groups, most with six bedrooms and room for 13 to 17 guests. Most have a spa and a sauna, as well as big kitchens and long dining tables, so they suit milestone birthdays, family get-togethers and wedding weekends. They are for staying, not for parties, so please check each home's house rules.
