A small town between Lorne and Apollo Bay, where the forest runs down to the sea.
See 1 homeWye River sits on the Great Ocean Road between Lorne and Apollo Bay, about two and a half hours' drive from Melbourne. It is a small town with a general store, a pub and a beach, and homes stepped up the hills with views over the ocean and the Otway forest behind.
It is a good base for the best part of the drive. Kennett River, where you can often spot koalas in the trees, is about five minutes away. Lorne, with its cafes, pier and beach, is about 20 minutes east, and Apollo Bay is about 30 minutes west. The waterfalls and rainforest walks of the Great Otway National Park are close by.
Summer is the busiest time, especially January. The Lorne Pier to Pub swim is on Saturday 9 January 2027. Easter and the July school holidays are also popular. Outside those times the road is much quieter, and winter brings big seas and moody skies that look great from a warm house with a view.
We look after a three-bedroom home in Wye River that sleeps up to 10, with wide ocean views. It is one of our most loved homes, so popular dates go early.
