Rye and Blairgowrie holiday homes

Rye and Blairgowrie sit side by side on the bay, about an hour and 15 to 20 minutes' drive from Melbourne. Rye has a long pier, a foreshore with camping and play areas, and a main road of cafes and takeaway shops. Blairgowrie is smaller and quieter, with a marina and easy walks along the beach towards Sorrento.

Cross the Peninsula from Rye and within ten minutes you are at the ocean. Rye ocean beach, Gunnamatta and St Andrews Beach face Bass Strait, with surf, sand dunes and walking tracks through the coastal park. St Andrews Beach is a quiet spread of homes among the tea trees close to the surf.

Peninsula Hot Springs at Fingal is about ten minutes from Rye, and there are several golf courses close by. The Sorrento shops are a few minutes along the coast, and the Red Hill cellar doors are about 25 minutes inland.

This part of the Peninsula is busiest from Christmas to the end of January, when families come back year after year. Outside school holidays it is calm and good value, and the bay is often still warm in March.
