Fifteen minutes south of Gold Coast Airport, the Tweed Coast trades the strip for kilometres of uncrowded sand — Kingscliff, Casuarina, and Cabarita strung along the dunes, with the Wollumbin caldera rising behind the cane fields.
About Tweed Coast.
The Tweed Coast is what the far north coast looked like before the crowds found it. From Fingal Head down through Kingscliff, Casuarina, and Cabarita Beach to Pottsville, the beaches run wide and empty, backed by dunes and cane country rather than high-rises, with Wollumbin (Mount Warning) holding the skyline inland.
The food story punches far above the postcode. Paper Daisy at Halcyon House in Cabarita set the tone; around it sit Osteria in Casuarina, Taverna in Kingscliff, and the farm gates of the Tweed Valley — Husk Farm Distillery, Tropical Fruit World, and Sunday growers' markets.
Byron Bay is half an hour south and the Gold Coast twenty minutes north, but the point of the Tweed is that you don't need either. Our homes here are absolute-beachfront builds where the day runs on tide and sun.
What to do.
Beaches
Casuarina's dune-backed sand runs unbroken from Cudgen Creek to Cabarita — swim, surf, and walk it for an hour without passing a towel.
Surf
Cabarita's right-hander off Norries Headland, D-Bah up at the border, and uncrowded beach breaks the whole way down.
The hinterland
Wollumbin and the Tweed Valley behind the coast: river cruises, Husk Farm Distillery, and Tropical Fruit World.
Dining
