Albatross is one of the finest private residences on the Gold Coast, set on the sand at Mermaid Beach and available only through Lively. Homes of this calibre almost never open to guests. Designed by Bayden Goddard, with interiors by Kate Walker of KWD, and built in solid concrete by DB Build, Albatross is a three-level beach house in the Bahamian style: an arched cedar door framed in bougainvillea, coach lanterns and ivy-covered walls outside; Egyptian marble, European oak and American walnut within. It holds the most north-eastern block on the street, with a boundary that runs out past its neighbours, 12.5 metres of private frontage and views from Stradbroke Island down to Coolangatta. Days here run from the beach back. The sun rises straight over the water in front of the terrace, there's a hammock under the palms, and the gate opens onto the beach. Inside, the living room is built around a hand-carved Egyptian marble fireplace and opens fully to the terrace. The kitchen is made for cooking for a crowd, with a 5-metre Brazilian quartzite island, a Wolf cooktop and a Sub-Zero fridge, and a servery window passes drinks out to the bar seating on the terrace. Behind the house, the rooms wrap around the heated pool: a long covered dining table on one side, and a recreation room with a walnut bar, drinks fridge and pool table on the other. Upstairs, the master suite faces the ocean, with a raked ceiling, two dressing rooms and a marble ensuite whose freestanding bath looks straight out to sea. Three more bedrooms each have their own palette, walk-in robe and Juliette balcony. One has its own ensuite and the others share a bathroom of tumbled marble and terrazzo. A first-floor family room becomes the fifth bedroom, and a study under the roofline on the second floor makes a quiet retreat. Five bedrooms sleep ten. Albatross suits families, multi-generational groups and anyone who values privacy. It isn't listed on Airbnb or any other platform, and every stay is arranged directly with our team.
