Vineyards, long drives, the slow kind of lunch
An hour east of Melbourne, the Yarra Valley is cellar-door country, rolling vineyards, two-hatted restaurants, and houses built to disappear into the land.
The Yarra Valley is Victoria's oldest wine region and, fifty years into the modern era, still its most decorated. Cool-climate pinot and chardonnay are the headline; sparkling, gamay, and shiraz round out the cellar-door circuit from Healesville through Yarra Glen and Coldstream.
Food has caught up with the wine. The Brae and Healesville Hotel sit alongside Oakridge, TarraWarra, and Stones of the Yarra Valley, restaurants pulling produce from gardens you can walk through after lunch.
Our homes here favour disappearing into the gum trees: blackened timber barns, glass-walled retreats above the river, properties built to belong on the ridge rather than sit on it.
Oakridge, Yarra Yering, TarraWarra, Domaine Chandon, Yering Station, a half-day's drive of Australia's best chardonnay and pinot.
Oakridge, Stones of the Yarra Valley, TarraWarra Estate, Healesville Hotel, long lunches under vine canopies.
Native fauna at close range, koalas, platypus, raptors-in-flight. A morning that travels well with kids.
Dawn flights over the vineyards. Lively partners with Global Ballooning Australia for member rates.

We curate a small portfolio of homes worth telling stories about. If yours is one of them, we'd love to hear from you.
